The taste of Success

The taste of success is sweeter than the pastries we had at the Brubeck Bakery Jamshedpur. Sometimes it can be fun delivering under pressure.
MBA is also about working in groups and facing tough situations together.

Labor reform Vs Unions Vs Management

In a world where no one is selfish, we don't need laws.
But that's not the case unfortunately.

We need laws to ensure that the weak are protected from the strong.
But why the strong have to be selfish in the first place?

The "Strong" to remain so need to be selfish.
Or selfishly they want to remain strong.

The unions need to come in to rescue the weak.
They also selfishly want to get established themselves.

Union uses its own strength selfishly to help either party based on what suits them.
In either case strong and union fight it out.
But Strikes and lockout do not help weak.

Nobody benefits.
weak remain weak.

We study law and IR trying to find mistakes.

We do not respect labour, By labour I do not mean workmen 2(s).
I mean that we look down upon labour as it is an abundant resource.
We waste abundantly available resource, price it low, disrepect it.

In another economy where labour price is expensive we respect it more.
So should reforms set a very high minimum wage rate. Say Rs 5000 a month.
Just to get respect if not anything else.

Repercussions will be mass unemployment and inflation in the short run.
But just like people adjust to any hike in sugar price, This hike accompanied with our own salary hike will help overall picture.

It is a far dream, but to solve our core problems and protect the weak, a major relook at ensuring that organized and unorganized workers earn a basic pay that ensures a good standard of living.

After writing upto this point I remember the village I visited in the deep interiors of Jharkhand. No electricty, No food, No hygiene, No future.. where a whole village of 50 people would not have Rs 5000. And I wish that all in my country earn Rs 5000 a basic pay.

Being far from reality is easy. Sitting in a room with AC working and with a laptop, I can write anything, But in the real world there is not much I can change.

So atleast can I ask the Strong to not be selfish and make sure that the lowest wage earner gets a higher pay. Not celebrate the exploits of the exploiter whose performace is measured on cost savings achieved by holding back pay of the weak.

At least the law can come upto a point where the law punishes the exploiter. And I wait for my dream of high std of living for some more time.

Sun rises on the TT table

GMPians take their TT seriously. That is why they chose the Diwali day to have the TT semi final & Final. Amid a lot of fanfare, Puja, sweets & crackers... we witnessed three cracking games. The four players had reached the top after beating the Saikats , the Xaviers among many others.

Sec A: Semifinal Sourav Vs Pracheesh (For junta too much into law, this is not a case)
Chop chop slow slow bang....
This was the theme. Sourav tried to make Pracheesh error and played defensive. He was thinking that it was futball and he was the defender. Pracheesh controlled his unforced errors to win in three sets.

Sec B : Semifinal Mohit Vs Suraj ( p.s this is not a case either....)
Huge crowd turnout and lot of support for both players. This three set match was a cliffhanger and in the end Suraj defeated Mohit, but both won for their effort and focus. The focus was a key in front of a belligerent crowd. One popular slogan chanted was a really confusing one.
" Jab tak suraj chand rahega, Mohit tera naam rahega"

Until sun & moon stay, mohit's name shall stay.

Grande Finale: Suraj Vs Pracheesh
The Sun rises in the east, but last nite after Sun Down, the mighty Suraj(sun) rose on the TT table to take the title for Section B. Pracheesh fought hard but Suraj played like a champion to be GMP 09 TT champ.

jAMPOT : 11 oCT 2009
GMPians grouped for a cricket match against Defense batch (Ds from now onwards). As we, the XLRI GMPians approached the playground we saw some lean, fit and cheerful guys practicing and discussing cricket….;;;”we definitely are in for good competition from an athletic and determined lot” , the thought reverberated through all GMPians(Gs from now onwards). With the mind-body connection the Gs had, a tough challenge was lined up for the sculpted Ds.

The match started with Gs opting to bat after winning the toss. Odd patches of green and rough undulations on the pitch limited the array of strokes Gs usually demonstrate. Good bowling line and accurate length, complimented by good fielding led to early success for Ds and soon Gs were struggling. Some good late hitting by Ranjay propelled Gs score to 64 for 9 in the allotted 15 overs.

BREAK FOR 15 MINUTES.
Taking into account the difficult batting conditions the field was set for a thrilling contest. Ds batted steadily for the first few overs with occasional hiccups. It was the introduction of Parth that turned the tide and swept away the heroics of Ds. Parth bowled a fine line and Mohit from the other end maintained a steady pressure on the batting side. With a 5 wicket grab Parth destroyed the opposite camp and Ds were bundled for a mediocre 36 runs.
Catching was exceptional and a brilliant run out reflected the overall good fielding status of Gs. Ample crowd support and unbiased standard umpiring from Sanjeev Reddy added to the enthusiasm and the competitive spirit.

Finally, the entire Gs team was heard encouraging each other by taking PRACHEESH’s name throughout the contest. It was later explained to amused Ds that chanting Pracheesh’s name was the success mantra and hence was repeated as often as possible.
We were clicked by waiting and pleading photographers towards the end and the match proceedings ended with cold drinks at the canteen sponsored by the winning team’s captain.

Chintu ki duniya

Pareshaan thi Chintu ki wife
Non-happening thi jo uski life
Chintu ko na milta tha aaram
Office main karta kaam hi kaam

Chintu ke boss bhi the bade cool
Promotion ko har baar jate the bhul
Par bhulte nahi the wo deadline
Kaam to karwate the roz till nine

Chintu bhi banna chata tha best
Isliye to wo nahi karta tha rest

Aur chod di usne Onsite ki moh maya
Boss se bola, "Tum kyon satate ho ?"
"Onsite ke laddu se buddu banate ho"

"Promotion do warna chala jaunga"
"Onsite dene par bhi wapis na aunga"
Boss haans ke bola "Nahi koi baat"
"Abhi aur bhi Chintus hai mere paas"

"Yeh duniya Chintuon se bhari hai"
"Sabko bas aage badhne ki padi hai"
"Tum na karoge to kisi aur se karunga"
"Tumhari tarah Ek aur Chintu banaunga"
